Biobased Sprayable Mulch Films Suppressed Annual Weeds in Vegetable Crops

چکیده
Biobased sprayable mulch (BSM) films are a potential alternative to herbicides, polyethylene plastic film, and hand weeding for specialty crops. We developed series of BSM using locally available biomaterials [including corn ( Zea mays ) starch, glycerol, keratin hydrolysate, gluten meal, zein, eggshells, isolated soy Glycine max protein] tested their effects on weeds crop yield during total seven greenhouse or field trials between 2017 2019 in Nebraska, USA. Application rates applied pots (greenhouse), planting holes film (field), bed tops (field) ranged from 0.9 18.2 L⋅m −2 ; they were before after the emergence weeds. Weed control efficacy was variable, results rarely replicated under conditions. Increasing viscosity final suspension [BSM7; mix starch (72.8 g⋅L −1 ), glycerol (184.7 mL⋅L hydrolysate (733.3 zein (19.8 protein )] reduced weed biomass by more than 96% field-grown kale Brassica oleracea var. sabellica when bare soil emergence, but treated plots not different weedy control. The demonstrated postemergence applications films, which increase application timing flexibility growers. Further research is needed explore properties physiology yield.

Effects of film mulch and soil pesticides on nematodes, weeds, and yields of vegetable crops.
Field plots in Tifton loamy sand were treated with various soil pesticides in 1973 and 1974 and either left exposed or covered with biodegradable flint mulch. Test crops were cantaloup, slicing and pickling cucumber, squash, and sweet corn. Overhead sprinkler irrigation was used in 1973, and trickle irrigation under the film mulch was used on sweet corn in 1974. Soil was assayed for nematodes, ...
متن کاملHerbicide Resistant Weeds and Crops
Modern herbicidal weed control often exploits physiological differences among plants and takes advantage of herbicide tolerance or resistance in crop plants to bring about the selective removal of susceptible weeds. The Weed Science Society of America defines herbicide tolerance as “the inherent ability of a plant to survive and reproduce after herbicide treatment” which suggests that herbicide...

s. Therefore, more information is necessary concerning cauliflower transplant age. CHINESE CABBAGE [Brassica rapa L. SSP. PEKINENSIS (LOUR.)]. Kratky et al. (1982) in Hawaii found no significant differences in time to maturity, individual head weight, and total yield from Chinese cabbage transplants of 3, 4, 5, and 6 weeks of age. RAPE (Brassica napus ssp. OLEIFERA VAR. NAPUS). In a 3-year stud...
متن کاملGlyphosate - Resistant Crops and Weeds : Now and in the Future
The adoption of transgenic crops (also called GMOs and biotech crops) worldwide has been rapid and impressive, reaching 120 million ha in 2008, and continues to grow at a steady pace (James, 2008). Approximately 80% of the total area devoted to these crops has been planted with herbicide-resistant crops, virtually all being glyphosate-resistant (GR) crops. Thus, a single genetic trait—glyphosat...
